About Thundafund.Africa

NB – Thundafund.com is in the finals stages of moving to the domain Thundafund.Africa – new platform, new functionality and our home-name reflecting our Africa-wide focus!

Thundafund is a dynamic and innovative reward-based crowdfunding platform that was founded in South Africa in 2013. Since then, we have expanded our reach to Kenya in 2019 and The Gambia in 2020, becoming a leading force in the crowdfunding industry across Africa.

Our inspiration stems from a deep desire to support and empower entrepreneurs on their journey to success. We understand the challenges that arise when trying to bring innovative projects and ideas to life, especially when it comes to securing the necessary capital. That’s why we established Thundafund — to provide a guiding hand and a supportive community for entrepreneurs like you

Thundafund is available in 3 locations across Africa, 2023

What Is Crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is an online way of raising money for your projects via small contributions by a large amount of people.

It is a modern approach to raising funds for projects or ideas by reaching out to a large number of people through an online platform. Instead of relying on traditional sources like loans or personal savings, crowdfunding allows individuals to showcase their projects and attract support from a community of backers.

Through small contributions from many people, crowdfunding makes it possible to turn dreams into reality, fostering collaboration and empowering individuals to bring their creative, entrepreneurial, or philanthropic ideas to life.

What Type of Crowdfunding is Thundafund?

Thundafund operates a ‘Rewards-Based’, ‘All-or-Nothing’ crowdfunding model. It currently operates in South Africa, Kenya and Gambia

What is ‘Rewards-Based’ crowdfunding?

Project creators essentially ‘presell’ project related items, known as rewards, to backers in turn for their financial contributions. These rewards include retail items, recognition and unique experiences. The example below uses Rands in the example for our South African friends!

What is ‘All-or-Nothing’ crowdfunding?

All projects on Thundafund are required to reach their Tipping Point before their project closes in order to receive all their funds. If their target is not reached all backers of the project will be reimbursed minus the banking fees. This ensures that when a supporter backs a campaign, they know the creator will raise enough to make the project actually happen.

All or Nothing
